From March 17 to 20, the Minister-President of the Government of Flanders, Kris Peeters, will be heading a political and economic mission to Montreal, with a delegation of representatives from both the academic and business world, active in the environmental, logistics and diamond industry.
During his stay, the Minister-President will have meetings with several politicians to discuss subjects of interest to both countries. He will also visit the University of Montreal, where he will assist in a seminar coordinated by the Catholic University of Leuven (KULeuven). Furthermore, several meetings with Canadian companies that have a connection with Flanders are on the agenda.
On Tuesday March 19, the Minister-President will visit the Americana Trade Fair, where Belgium is the “country of Honour” this year. As one of the largest and most important cleantech events in North America, Americana is an ideal forum for Flemish and Belgian SMEs to prospect on the Canadian market, share sector knowledge, or initiate public-private partnerships (PPS), which may result in a win-win situation for Québec (Canada) and Flanders (Belgium). The Minister-President will attend the official Americana opening ceremony and will also visit the Belgian pavilion.
Mr Peeters will also close the ‘Hidden children in Belgium 1942-1945’ exhibition developed by the Kazerne Dossin at the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre. Finally, the business trip will be concluded with a commemorative moment for World War I, in which Canada played an important role.
